Why Van Roofs Are Different

Campervans, motorhomes, and caravans operate in an environment that most cable entry products were never designed around — constant vibration, repeated heat cycling, prolonged UV exposure, and ongoing cable movement, often for years without inspection.

Generic cable glands are built for electrical enclosures, sheds, and machinery, where these conditions do not apply. On a van roof that mismatch shows up over time: UV exposure can harden lower-grade plastics, vibration and thermal cycling can gradually unload seal compression, and off-axis cable strain introduces forces static designs were never tested for.

AeroGland was developed by starting with these van-life conditions first — not by adapting a generic gland from another application.

AeroGland was engineered around the realities of campervan, motorhome, and caravan roofs: constant vibration from road travel, thermal cycling between hot roof surfaces and cool nights, long-term UV exposure, and cable movement from roof-mounted accessories on thin, curved panels.

In practice, that means the gland is designed to maintain seal contact as the roof flexes, reduce stress concentration at the cable entry rather than letting movement focus on one point, and age predictably under sun exposure instead of becoming brittle. The included cable clips cradle and guide cables along the roof, reducing point loading instead of simply restraining the cable.

These outcomes come from designing the gland, seal, and cable management as one system — not independent parts.
