HPL or Paper overlay board what should i use

Whats BETTER Hpl or Paper overlay ?

Firstly what are they !!!

HPL better known as High Pressure Laminate

How is it made, Hpl laminates have multiple layers of kraft paper infused with resin which are then pressed using heat and pressure to fuse it together resulting in single rigid product that is extremely durable.

HPL Advantages

  • Scratch resistant
  • Very Durable
  • Fenix range of laminates have nano technology providing anti fingerprint, thermal healing and mould resistant
  • Ideally suited to campervans because of its durability
  • Increases strength of board when laminated together
  • Hygienic
  • Laminate thickness 0.9mm

HPL Disadvantages

  • Board is heavier when laminated with a high pressure laminate
  • Price per square meter is higher

Paper overlay board

This product has a thin printed paper applied to surface and a clear coat for protection , a paper overlay has a thickness of approximately 0.4mm which is less than half th thickness of a HPL laminate.

Paper overlay Advantages

  • Lighter than HPL laminate
  • Slightly cheaper
  • Suited for Caravans , campervans

Disadvantages

  • Easier to damage not scratch resistant
  • Less strength

Summary

Both products are suited to campervans the reason we choose HPL over paper overlay is exclusively to minimise damage which is unavoidable due to space restrictions.

Yes Price per sqr/m is higher but is offset considerably by less accidental damage
